I don't know..these must be last season's bulbs that just hadn't been taken out of cold storage yet..don't you think? How in the world is he going to get rid of all of those? They over produce a lot of bulbs don't they...and then again these might get bought up by the big box stores and redistributed to us this fall as "new stock"..
I know a big percentage of my severe overbuying at one particular nursery yielded a lot of dud bulbs..some which still haven't rooted or put up leaves, let alone bloom...just my thoughts of course.

I think most of those big box stores order directly from the bulb companies, Walmart orders directly from Assad, Target from Smith and Hawken, I'm not sure about the others tho. I'm not honestly sure who buys these bulb bulbs, maybe like mail order nurseries?
