Amalfi x Benfica 2011

I borrowed the reproductive rights of the seed parent (described as Amalfi) from a neighbour.

This was pollinated with the super-dark red Benfica. There were 20 or so seedlings, and they are just coming into bloom now. This one is very large with a nice healthy shape and has a hint of the pinkish tinge of Amalfi and its crepe like texture showing through. Others emerging look rather similar

Is that really a watermelon pink as shows on my laptop? If so so, I am drooling. If not, still lovely.

The Amalfi is certainly a striking pink colour (not mine, unfortunately, and it has not appeared this year). In the hybrid, most of it has been drowned out by the Benfica but there is still a bit of the original colour showing through. The most obvious remnant of the Amalfi characteristics is the crepe-like texture of the petals.
