The Banana's, and the Elephant Ears do come back but this is the first year for the Canna's, so I can't tell you if they will come back or not.

But last year I did not do a thing, as far as protection, no mulch nothing and everything returned, but they had been in the ground for a few years, I guess I just got lazy and did not do anything and it all returned in spring, matter of fact it seemed like they came out earlier than normal.

Hope that answered your question, give it a try they are fun to grow and not a lot of care just water and fertlize and watch them grow.

That's great! I think maybe I will try putting my elephant ears in the ground and see if they come back next spring. This is the first summer for my basjoos also, so I will really have to baby them this winter I guess.

You won't have to baby them too much the first years, after a killing frost, not a nippling frost cut them down to the ground, then lay plastic down, and cover in a thick mulch, that what I did up till last year and they all came back up with more pups. They are so fun to grow and watch and I enjoy them I think a little more than my palm trees. Thinking about trying some Canna seeds when they get ready. I am not sure if you can over winter the seeds or not, I guess I should ask that question on that forum.

OMG! They look awesome!! Your bananas grew to that height in a single year?!? That is amazing!

Thanks for the tips. I will have to try overwintering them that way. I planted my elephant ears in the ground (finally), but they are getting a bit yellow now, so I am not sure why... they were fine in the pot. Do you have to overwinter them the same way as the bananas?

Yes, they have grown that large since they came up in late april and we had a freeze on them and they got bitten by the frost. Everyday I see them getting larger.

On the Elephant Ears I do them the same way, but remember last winter I did nothing at all to protect either the bananas or the Elephant ears, and they came back in the spring.

On the Elephant Ears be sure they have plenty of water just like the bananas they love water I water everyday, and I use miracle grow on both about every week sometime a little more than once a week.

Hope that helps you will love the bananas, I like the E.Ears to but Palms are my favorite.
