This was supposed to be Helenium autumnale, but it is in the daisy family somehow. Has leaves like perennial painted daisy, so I thought it might be annual painted daisy when it got buds. These buds don't look like the pix of annual painted daisy I see on the web with all the colors. Can somebody tell me what this plant is? It is 2.5' tall.

I'll go with anthemis tinctoria (golden marguerite). Mine (just seedling still) just got chewed down by some caterpillar or other!

Yes, Anthemis inctoria. It's a perennial.
Great as cutflower too. It has a long vase-life.

Thank you! With so many flowers the first year I am pleasantly surprised that it is a perennial. Looking forward to sharing the seeds.

Beautiful! That's on my 2011 wish list. Maybe we could work out a trade or I could send an SASBE.
Thanks for posting the pictures so I get a good look at both the flowers and the foliage. I'm on the fence a little between this one and doronicum.

I'll be more than happy to trade seeds. austinnhanasmom, I know we both did the WLOMWL swap last year (your name kind of stands out). We could do that again, or I'd be happy to trade with you and gardenweed separately.
