My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
Here's a picture of my M. basjoo taken about a week ago. I am always amazed at how fast these things grow. This plant died all the way to the ground over the winter, and didn't start coming up until sometime in May. It grew to this size in about 6 weeks--already about 7-8 feet tall and still growing. This is its fourth growing season, so I guess it's had some time to build up some underground reserves!
After a hard frost has killed the leaves I cut them off and put a big pile of leaves, unfinished compost, and pretty much everything I cut down in my garden over and around the stems. Even so, the stems have died almost all the way to the ground each of the past 3 winters.
