I live in Toronto, Canada and mine is flowering, it also has little bananas. It took 3 years for it to flower here.

My i ask how big it is and how much of the trunk you have been able to keep alive during the winter? Mine is starting to push 8 feet.

I personally have not accomplished this but the fellow down the street used to. To get the basjoo to fruit he would cage and straw them. I have found recently that this is not necessary for their survival here in Zone 6 KS but it will let them keep their trunk. Once he got one to fruit the successive daughters would put out some sort of flower nearly every year.

Bananas must have a certain time span to mature. Some mature quicker than others. The problem in temperate climates is they don't grow for 18-24 months so they don't produce. Many of us cut them down and the trunk must start over. If you have a greenhouse, you can carry them over during the winter and they will eventually bloom. Then you may have to carry them over another season to see that bananas ripen.
