another winter storage ???

I live in east.NC. The lows this winter will get in the teens, maybe colder.I expect at least one cold snap where the daytime highs will not go above freezing for a day or two.

I am growing an unidentified banana plant.I do know that the plant was locally grown and is an "offshoot" The plant was given to me around mid May. It has grown from approx.18" to a hieght of 4 or 5 ft in an 18"pot. I fertilize every 10 days or so with a mixture of 10-10-10 and liquid fish emulsion and liquid kelp.

My plan for overwintering here is placing the plant in a very large clear 12ml plastic bag. I am also considering stuffing the bag with pine straw or hay. The plant will then be put under the house in the crawl space.

Should I remove any leaves and if so do I just cut them with scissors at the point where they bend away from the trunk.

Is there a certain time to stop fertilizing? If so should my last fertilization be just the kelp(lots of potash)?

Is there a time to stop watering?

A new plant has came up in the pot its about 3" tall. What should I do with this now?

I apologize for a question thats asked often. I have read some post on overwintering and still have these questions.

Thanks for the help.
