Hello I have many bananas also I def. think that is combined with the dry hot heat w/ the strong sun's rays and not much water at all. I water mine everyday in the summer, and this is in Virginia Beach. Nicaragua much warmer etc... How is Nicaragua by the way? I love the caribbean, you are somewhat near Honduras. were those bananas recently transplanted also or no? talk later- Justin

I transplanted them back in May...they were about 2 feet tall at the time. Now they range in size from 4 to 5 feet, actually one is 6 feet, but they are all in the same yellow, sunburned boat. They truely are in a heat oven, there is a masonry wall to the north and the house wall to the east, so there is no air movement and the sun reflects directly on them at midday and then against the hot walls in the afternoon.

I am near the Pacific Coast, not close to Honduras. The great thing about Nicaragua is that the soil here is volcanic, so it is naturally fertilized...I don't have to give anything to the bananas, they just keep on producing. The only real problem here is the lack of rain...and most bananas here look ragged by the end of the dry season, but this was a first for me during the so called rainy season, which despite its name, is no stranger to 3 week long dry spells.

I will water them every other day now to keep them happy...but I think these are acclimated to the intense heat and dryness overall. All of the sunburn messages I was reading were from people up north who winterized bananas and put them outside for the first time...so I was glad to see someone else who could relate with heat and dryness. I will let you know how they end up doing down the road.
