Hostas don't normally come true from seeds so even though I could send you seeds from a dozen different designer hostas, they could all look exactly the same when grown from seed. The only way to get plants exactly like a named cultivar is by division.

I saved seeds from 'Dream Weaver' & 'El Nino' last fall. I winter sowed them and both are growing nicely. The seedlings are solid green even though both parent plants are variegated. I don't mind because they could be stunning plants when they get to full size and you can't beat the price. They're easy to winter sow but grow very slowly. They don't need cold stratification either. I planted some seeds last June and they sprouted after a week or two. They went dormant in December but are up again this year.

I've got a garden full of some fabulous hostas grown from seed--some seed I've saved from my own plants and some were purchased at Homestead Division. I'll paste in the link:

I had heard that they don't always come true from seeds, but I still wanted to try. It doesn't really matter to me, I'm just interested in WS my own. :-)

Even if I ended up with solid greens, etc., they could still turn out to be beautiful plants.

That's true.

When it comes to hostas, different leaves is the name of the game! Go for it!

hostarookie - if you want seeds from my named cultivars that develop seedpods, just email me. I'll be happy to send you some in exchange for a SASBE.

Thank you Gardenweed!! I just emailed you.

You can really see the difference in the leaves quite early. Trading for different parent plants open pollinated is still quite fun. I love the tiny things.
Here are some of mine after being planted out for a bit.

Gardenweed, did you get my email?
