A neighbour of mine used to keep bees. He's retired now and I miss them (so do the flowers in my garden). Pity I'm so far away.
BTW I read in the paper a few years ago that the electricity board had to call Chester Zoo to remove a hive of bees that made their home in a reel of 400,000 volt cable.

Call your local Cooperative Extension Service office or local constabulary and ask if they have a list of beekeepers who collect swarms. Someone will want them, if they are really honeybees.

I see,... it's about 7 years ago when the original poster had bees in the ground....sounds like wasp, I've never seen or heard of honey bees in the ground,...bumbles yes, but these you want to have around in your yard.
Me as a bee keeper, I'm on call for swarm collecting in my area, got a call this year, usually I tell them I'll come and check it out first...sure enough, a bird house was stuffed with bumbles.
This was a good ending for these bumbles...they get to live a full cycle and not being exterminated, I'll bet, allot of good bees get exterminated for no reason, it was good, the owner called a bee keeper and not a exterminator.
