After reading tons of overwintering experiences, I finally went ahead and cut the leaves. :)

Last year, they were in my living room. It gets morning sun from 9am to 11am but intermittenly. It grew backwards. When I received it from Sandy around August or September, it was 48" tall. Around April, it went down to 30". The leaves became shorter. Anyways, here are the pics.

There's no way a banana that you dig and move inside, can sustain all those leaves. Plus you destroy a lot of the roots that supply moisture to the plant. Unless you are keeping the plant in a sunny, warm greenhouse, I think it's best to remove most of the leaves like you did. Fortunately, Red Abbys are just about the easiest bananas to overwinter in a dormant state.

Hey, that looks like my basement.
I'm heartened by this. this is my first year with a banana, so I'm hoping to overwinter. I'm going to leave one in the garden and mulch it really heavy, just to experiment. Sometimes we get incredibly mild winters.
