Betcha can't guess when...

... the Monsoon will end! Hey, if it's over by GW Party Time, we could give out a prize to the winner. Last year I seem to recall it was a short season. When do you think it will end?

My guess - and it's a completely arbitrary and wishful thought - is that it will end September 17.

Hmmmmm What or Whom dictates the end? The dew point? I'll take September 21st :)

    Sept. 12th.

Well, GT, now that you mention it: What does signify the official end of monsoon? The beginning is 3 consecutive days of dewpoint of 55 degrees or more - I think. Can someone clarify for us this all-important turn in the weather?

I bet it will end on 9/26.
I don't know if 3 consecutive days of dewpoint of 54 degrees or less would be the end of the monsoon. I know that this does happen after the monsoon has started, but they don't say the monsoon is over, they just say the dewpoint is (blah blah)and this drying trend will be around until (blah blah) and then moisture will move back into the state. Maybe someone should email their favorite weather person and see if they reply?

i can't say when, but i can say how. a tropical storm or depression entering arizona from mexico will spell the end of the monsoon for this year.

I'll have a guess at Sept 22. Should be the day after we overseed our lawns. I know that's been the case for me. ARG! Seed gets soaked, wash away and kaput! Let is be a gentle rain and transition into the Autumn.

Hey Detrick, why will a tropical depression end the monsoon? Couldn't it come back afterwards? I'm clueless on weather stuff.

BTW, I'm hoping for Sept. 16. I think that would make a nice b'day gift for me. :-)

We are having June weather again.
In reality the monsoon is over! The High pressure and the heat wave are heading for Mexico. Our HIGH HEAT WARNING is extended through tuesday.
I may not mow the grass again this month.
    Stay hydrated!!!
As long as I am still sweating, I know my body has not shut down completely. I am alive and I can go out and smell the sunflowers. mmm
Today we set record high temperatures for the morning low and the afternoon high.

Hey, DD, why do you think the monsoon is really over? I hear the weather guys talking about the dry air lasting a few more days and then the monsoon "coming back." And we're still supposed to get more rain - though it has been conspicously absent at my house all along. I know how we calculate the official beginning of monsoon; does anybody know how to calculate the end?

I made my statement! If I am proven wrong, I apologize.
Those whether persons are totally committed to HYPE. They have become "entertainers." Lots of words saying whether the weather will be this way or that way is not what gardeners need. I want accurate, informed guesses. Experience and memory should play a part.
I am going out to smell the sunflowers.

Well, I'm having a tropical depression all of my own.

    (*sigh*)

LOL, PC, me too! Dirt Dew may be right. I read a piece - in the Sunday paper, I think - that pretty much said it may be all over but the guessing. If so, it will be one of the shortest monsoons on record. If these 'meteorologists' can say when it ends, why can't they say how? Geez. Let's keep guessing; we can't do any worse than the "entertainers" on TV! Which BTW is a big annoyance; can't anyone do a straight delivery anymore? Is is just me or is Dave Munsey about the only real 'weatherman' on the tube now? I get dizzy watching the others jump from one side of the screen to the other... Woops, if I keep this up, I'll need to post this on the "Whine" thread.

Well, the 3 sunflowers in your signature are making me smile. I can almost see smiley faces on them. I keep wanting to smell them.
How many on this forum are ready to tear August off the calendar tomorrow night??? We have had way too many days of 110°F or more this summer.
FYI - The hummingbirds are loving the spray from the Arizona Mist outdoor cooling system. The other birds are enjoying it too.

LOL, well, if anyone sees nose prints on their computer screen, now we'll know what happened! Glad you liked.

DD, I am ready to rip, tear, shred and stomp! C'mon September, c'mon fall and coooooool weather.

Any more guesses? GT thinks it's over and if she's right Sharon won. Who thinks it's *not* over? How about you folks who got rain last night. I thought for sure we were going to get a soaking, but no, it passed right by.

.... but we did get some rain this morning at I-17 and Northern... so, if it rains at all, we're still on, right?

It poured here Thursday night, a nice rain this a.m. also.

We got four REALLY strong, small cells through here (5th and Wilmot, Tucson) today. It actually cooled things off a bit!

Today. The dewpoint is already is in the 20's and it is only 10pm The weather sytem just moved through this afternoon ushering out the monsoon.

April, the weather entertainer on channel 3, just said it is over this morning?

Channel 12 said he thought it would over this weekend, but that call is officially made by the National Weather people (can't remember what Federal agency he said). So, there must be a standard that they use....

OK, let's see if someone - anyone - has a credible answer to this nagging question. I'll check NOAA. Any other suggestions? Call the "weather entertainer?" - I love that phrase, fits those folks to a T. Did anyone get rain yesterday?

It's OVAH! Sharon won. (See "Monsoon officially ends.") She guessed Sept. 12 and the call was Sept. 10. C'mon, fall!!

GEEZ! Your a tough judge! Glad you finally came around ;) LOL!!
