It is sort of tragic, though, because if she had already laid her eggs (or is it too soon for that?) of course they will be lost. :o(

You could make it up to her by marking such spots with a rock or small garden tag in the future...or even bound the area with some twigs, and let others know not to step there.

I have a couple of spots in my garden under shrubs where I allow leaves to accumulate naturally, and I think that is where my bumblebees nest. I bounded one of the areas with a little rock edging, and I think the bees may also like that.

I specifically designed the area to make it almost impossible for anyone to walk through it. Occasionally we have had a rabbit nest in there.

I've been a bit upset with myself because I cut back the bittersweet weeds that are growing in a couple of patches in my garden. I sometimes use the leaves and stems in a herbal wash, and one summer I noticed that the bumblebees seem to like the purple flowers, which are among the earliest to come out in Spring. Now, I see that the bittersweet is not blooming as soon as it usually does, and I am hoping the bumblebees can wait.

I also worry about my front garden's bumblebee when it flies up the street. I'm afraid someone's insecticide will get it. We don't use anything like that on our property.

I want more bumblebees, and have been planting more herbs in the hope that their flowers may help to keep them healthy. I have loved them since I was little.

There is a large wasp that is shaped and colored like a bumblebee, but it flies more quickly, is more aggressive, and has a shiny abdomen. I worry that it will take over the bumblebees' territory, and also that it will make other people dislike bumblebees through mistaken identity.

I have build a couple of houses for them, here is a picture with a bumble.
