Compost--Can't Find a Bulk Source

I have yet to find a source for TRUE compost in bulk. Since I have too many garden beds to amend, buying bags is out of the question. I have bought bagged at HD and/or Lowe's but didn't consider it true compost as it didn't appear to be aged. I know Sand & Gravel has been mentioned but the West side location doesn't have it. Any

suggestions where I can find it in bulk? Thanks for any and all help.

You might try Western Organics, at 2807 S. 27th Ave in Phoenix. 602-269-5784. I think they sell compost in bulk, and are a very good company.

LOL, took the words right out of my mouth! They actually get a lot of their stuff from the City of Phx prior to it ending up in the landfill - it's a pretty large scale operation, so I'd say 'bulk' is an understatement.

Good choice to get bulk compost. I do get a little rankled at the thought they're getting money on both ends. Phoenix actually *pays* them to take the greenwaste and they turn around and charge residents for the compost. I think Weinberger at 43rd Ave and Lower Buckeye also composts greenwaste. Let us know what you find out re: availability and prices, please.

I've heard those guys speak, seemed like a nice bunch....Too bad more folks don't use sewage - it's a great use of the sludge that otherwise goes down the drain ...

.... Or composting toilets, PC! We'd probably never have to worry about water again if we didn't flush millions of gallons a day down the sewer. Of course, Palo Verde would have to get their cooling water somewhere else if we did that...

Sorry, KLynn, we sorta got off topic. What did you decide to do about compost? It's always good to know when a hunt for something turns out successful.

Thanks to all of you for your input!! gglines, thanks so much for your suggestion. I called Artistic Arborist and believe this is the way to go--their material ($28 sq yd)is aged for four months and closely monitored. I have yet to see the material and will of course do that before I have it delivered, but it sounds great! Sand & Gravel once told me they didn't have compost but are now saying they do and it is either manure or mulch. Artistic Arborist's concoction sounds much better. I'll keep you posted as I'm sure there are many gardeners who need to find compost in bulk. Thanks again for all the help.

Just curious, KLynn, did you do a cost comparison? If so, what were prices per cubic yard for the others you contacted?

Wester Organics does have bulk compost but the customer service is poor at best. I waited all day for a delivery; it never came nor was I contacted by the company to let me know they weren't coming. Also, the delivery charge is excessive.
