Chinese evergreen ash - crooked

A few years ago I planted a very tall but thin trunked tree that was crooked. It's trunk was shaped sort of like a "s." I asked on this forum what to do and most said to return the tree. But since I only paid $10 for it, I never returned it. I actually did try to dig it up to give away, but the hard dirt and roots put up a good struggle and I couldn't dig it out. I didn't want to chop it down either.

Fast forward a few years later and the trunk is completely straight without my intervention. It's also quite tall and has a beautiful canopy. It is one of the nicest trees around.

Cool. Is this what many people also call "Chinese evergreen elm" Ulmus parvifolia or "Evergreen ash" Fraxinus uhdei or something else?

Yes, thank you. That was nice way of saying its really "elm" not "ash."

I don't know enough to be certain you meant elm. If I did I'd fully expect a bunch of people to tell me there is a "Chinese evergreen ash" common names being what they are.

But anywho..cool it straightened out. I've never had a tree do that. Normally it gets worst. But I guess that depends on the curve and how it happened. I've noticed some young trees that got bent over in our recent storm are starting to straighten themselves out.
