Great photos. I think zinnias should be in every garden. They make great landing strips for butterflies, too.

Wonderful action shots!! What a lovely collection of zinnias you have. A great idea to arrange those shots that way. I have not investigated doing anything that fancy with my camera. I love zinnias simply because my Mom grew them and planted several dozen this year. My mistake was to plant them out just before we were heading away. An unexpected heat wave came in and my son (left in charge) said he could not get the hose to 'work' and it was too hot to hand water so when I returned, it was to beds of brown 'sticks'. What a heartbreak. Maybe next year!!

Beautiful! Love all the bee pics, too! My bees love the zinnias, too. But this year I had poppies for the first time (papaver somniferum), and I swear the bees rolled in the flower centers like they were drunk! I'll have to take a video next year. They are so much fun to watch!

I love that montage of pics! Yes the bees, butterflies, and even the hummers love the tall Zinnias. I grow the tall single and semi-double every year (not the doubles because the nectar tubes are obscured by petals). Like Cut & come again, State Fair, or Cal. Giants.

Vesper, I noticed that too - the bees just LOVED the annual poppies and did indeed roll all over the pollen. Sometimes there was 4 or 5 bees in one flower.

The hummers love the Zinnias too -

    >my son (left in charge) said he could not get the hose to 'work'That's priceless!!! Ahhhh, kids. Gotta love 'em.

I'm so going to try poppy somniferum next year! Mine died before blooming this year due to the heat.

terrene: Wow, what a nice pic! I never saw a hummingbird on my zinnias. I am, too, love single zinnias. I think the way the florets are on single zinnias is like a crown. I think those are beautiful. I like semi-double or double ones too, but only if they have florets.

I agree that every garden should have zinnias. Mine even have more blooms right now. They are such a workhorse...

terrene and Karen - those are great photos. Don't you love watching hummers? They are territorial and so feisty.

We usually have many hummers but not this year. Maybe they are affected by the heat and drought or the fact that most flowers died.

I did not see this thread when it was current but it has changed my mind about zinnias. Hmmm...

I grew some white ones (white wedding) this year, what a joy to see in the garden. So easy and they last so long.

Carolyn, you must grow zinnias - they stand up beautifully in the hot, dry summers we get in the mid-south.
