I think it might depend on how early in the afternoon they get full sun--with an overhang I would think it wouldn't be right after noon? From what I read they can take quite a bit of sun, and the color will be better for it. I remember liking this a lot when I grew it some years ago, but I think I put it in more shade than that. The pictures on Google that show it growing in a lot of sun make it look much more colorful than mine was. Be sure you acclimate it if it wasn't growing in a lot of sun at the nursery. If you want to see some nice pictures look for it as Begonia 'Richmondensis', which I think means it's been around for a long time. Can't have names that sound like botanical species when they're actually hybrids anymore. Having been around for a long time means it's a good tough plant that a lot of people have grown and loved!

I agree - it will probably like that spot!

When you water, be sure to water thoroughly, and then let it get a little on the dry side before you water again - thoroughly. Rather than consistently moist, a bit of a cycle does this good.

Rather than little sips of water, it likes a big deep drink, and then is fine without for awhile. There are two B. 'Richmondensis' - the "regular" which has pink blooms tinged darker at the edges, and the B. 'Richmondensis alba' which as white blooms.

Also, you can cut this way back in the fall, and store in a cool bright spot (one lady I know cuts her huge plant back to half, and puts it next to a sliding glass door in the split level basement for the winter) and then put it (or them) back out in the spring! Alternately, you can make cuttings and keep it as an indoor plant over the winter, then start making more to put back out in the sping.

This is a wonderful, tough plant!
