Detrick, It would have been a hassle to run electric to it and set up a filter system.
I used Rustoleum spray paint (a lot of it)

you know that now that you've done this, we'll be seeing this idea on those home improvement and gardening shows. of course, we know who came up with it first. LOL

Wow, thats beautiful!!! How are you keeping the white flys off your petunias? Mine are looking pretty sick and sticky.

The Petunias are "wave" Petunias. Nothing seems to bother them. ALL of the regular petunias I have bought (and thats a ton) have shriveled and died. The white flies apparently designated my garden their convention center this year :(

Very, very nice! I've thought of buying one of these as a small water garden too after seeing some nice ones profiled in some gardening books...do you think they wouldn't work well with some water lilies and mosquito fish (without filtration)? Just curious.

In any case, it's LOVELY and your "backup" plan for it is inspirational. You have a great eye for design. I would never have thought of repainting it. Your plant choices are great too.

Did you do anything in the bottom of the water tank to provide for drainage or is it just evaporation? If so, is that working out ok?

There is about a 1 inch drain hole on the bottom/side. And I drilled several more holes :)
