Seed Snatching Stinkers

Ok, this is nothing compared to what Ron has had to deal with, but I had about a dozen huge pink asclepias seed pods, just about to pink, clipped off. My neighbor didn't see anything.

Now if you saw this garden you'd laugh, it's a disaster, only a trained eye would recognize it for what it was. I would have happily shared. I did manage to get a few pods earlier in the week, but milkweed is, you know, messy to get the seeds, so I was waiting for my day off, Thursdays.

What makes it worse is I have some dark rose hibiscus pods a few feet away, and I feel like they are sitting ducks while they ripen.

Oh what a bummer! I just harvested loads of pink asclepias. Email me and I'll send you some. Sure hope no one gets those hibiscus seeds.

Maybe you should make a sign "NO SEED SNITCHING".I'm going to make one for my flower bed by the street for next spring. Letha

Well I know how you feel. I HAD the Chatelaine (red) Lupine pods ripening in my larger garden up by the street. I did manage to get about 5 seed pods from them but most were gone before I had a chance to get them. I would certainly have shared but I wanted some to trade with too.
Bummer...I snitch seeds but not from others gardens and not all of them.

Same here, but only half were taken. I was watching the seed pods on my white Aquilegea caerulea, and a neighbor came by and asked if she could take a few pods when they were ready. I told her that was fine, but to be sure to wait until they were completely dry.

She took half the pods, at least 25 of them. :>(

I'm sorry to hear about all these problems. We have a new sidewalk thanks to the city and our main problem is people leaving their (doggy) presents behind, not taking things.

A "no seed snitching" sign in the vicinity of any plants you want to save your pods from seems a great idea (just don't make it too good or it might disappear too)! Some people (not all) just might figure you don't know what you've got there and they're simply saving those seed from being wasted. *I didn't say it was right, I'm just saying that might be what they're thinking.*

And hindsight being what it is, next time anybody asks you if they can take some - tell them "No" but you'll *give* them some when the stuff is ready so you can time it and you can control how much they get... donn, maybe your neighbor just can't count. :-/

Roflol and Letha, I think you're right. I think I will put a friendly sign first, like "Ask, don't snatch" or something...and I like Roflol's advice to Don, this way we control the seeds that leave.
Don, I am so sorry your neighbor got greedy.
As for the poop, my neighbor across the street used to let his dogs out at 11pm and they'd make a beeline to my yard and poo. I bought an infra red sensor to "train" them to stay away since he wouldn't. It worked until the town got enough complaints that he finally tied them up.
Dawiff, thanks but I did manage a few pods earlier in the week, and I have plenty of orange ones splitting open as I type, so I should be OK.
I think I am going to move that whole garden to my backyard. It was too tall for that spot anyway...

Now what can I make that sign out of???? Hmmm...

Last weekend my neighbor had a garage sale. During the course of the weekend someone snipped off every single one of my lavender Crepe Myrtle blooms. They weren't even ready for seed, they were just gorgeous blooms. I can put two and two together.

It occurred to me to make a quick, attractive copper sign offering to share with those who ask. Then I remembered how theft prone copper is. It's always something.

Just let me know and I will put them in the mail on Tuesday!
