Did the actual flowers open in nice concentric circles from the outside inwards? Have you got a picture of an actual open flowers. The whole inflo looks pretty normal Neo to me. Those inner leaves/flowering bracts that kind of close around the inflo, looks like a compacta or macwilliamsii trait so your plant may well be a cross between one of them and another Neo. If the actual flowers open randomly, all over the show, then it is a totally different story! Might be a good idea to dissect the inlfo to see if it is a compound inflo. On the other hand, there are Neos with compound inflo's

Thanks very much for the info Japie. That plant is in a rather awkward position in the garden on a slope surrounded by spikey agaves so I haven't been able to casually observe the flowering pattern. I don't have any other neos with leaves/bracts that close in around the inflorescence like that so that's why I thought it was odd. Thanks again for sharing!

John, I was trying to get a picture to show you, but sadly I did not take any of compacta or macwilliamsii when they were in flower. But here is a not-so-good picture of Neo Sheba, a cv of macwilliamsii with that rose-bud shape inflo as Lisa once described it.
