Fetterbush is a common name for Lyonia lucida. Unfortunately, common names are not used consistently. At the same site, you can find information about two Leucothoe species that are native to Florida.

Great site with good closeup images. I love Leucothoe and always get a kick out of remembering Henry Mitchell (the marvelous Washington Post writer) saying he was tickled to see one of his dogs tripping over "Dog Hobble" one day in his garden.

Thanks to Josh and Seronea for the answers. I suspect both my wild dog hobble and my purchased fetterbush are both Leucothoe. The purchased one is slightly different in appearance from my wild one, so will probably have to wait til both bloom to get further id on the wild one. It roots easily when I stick a branch into the damp soil near the creek. Josh, I'm in Clarkesville - are you in middle Georgia?
