Under the theory that a bean is a bean is a bean, I'd plant according to the Master Gardener manual directions. They would surely expire in a frost if you planted them now.

Tracy, what is the exposure where you planted? I'd love to have more vines and I'm always looking for one that's done well for someone else.

Mostly sun. I don't really have anywhere in my yard that is full sun, unless I were to plant up on the front sidewalk but they get a fair amount of afternoon sun. I didn't think they were going to set beans and finally in October, all of a sudden, they were loaded with them.
One of the vines goes way up into a very tall palm tree and looks really cool. I gave it twines to climb to get it started.
