Probably going to need to see the color (White, Blue or Red) of the flower petals on the Nids to make the call.

All I know is that the Guz is some form of lingulata, but there are a lot of cvs of that species. It's interesting that yours is blooming the same time of year as ours on the flip side of the equator, Nev.

Lisa, would species that are from the equatorial regions care much about the time of year/angle of the sun? Wouldn't something else have more of an influence?

Sorry, the above text should read "the first time I've flower these two Nid's", (not the Guzmania)

The Guzmania I bought at the markets because I liked the colour. It was one of a load of "nonames" that the seller got from one of the growers up north and was probably treated with florel to force the flowers. That's probably why it's flowering out of season and the same time as yours.

Good question, Nick. I don't have an answer, but Guzzies do tend to be seasonal, left to their own devices, so they are apparently responding to some sort of signal.
