Deadheading - which have to be??

I read and read about my flowers, but I guess my old tired mind just can't keep in all the info--probably because I read too much and get mixed up. Which flowers will not bloom again unless they are deadheaded? Coneflowers and geraniums are just about the only ones that I deadhead constantly.

How about butterfly bush? The blooms on mine are drying out now, but the birds still like them, so I have left them on. I think the cat's whiskers plants have become one of my favorites because they bloom constantly, don't seem to need to be deadheaded, and the hummingbirds love them. Here is a recent picture. I read that these come in lavender also--does anyone have seeds for them, I sure would like to grow one between these two white ones.

This Melampodium showstar, is another favorite, and it doesn't seem to need deadheading, because it has not stopped blooming. Also the porter's weed behind it.

It is so hot here - 97 today with a heat index of 108, that I hate deadheading. As several others said, I am looking for more long blooming flowers, that don't need deadheading.

Let me know some of your favorites.

Thanks, Jeane
