why didn't the picotee edging show?

Didn't get around to asking this earlier so figured now would have to do.

This past summer I picked up three tubers of a begonia type that was supposed to be yellow flowers with a red/orange picotee. The plants grew and bloomed well but only one of the stalks produced flowers that had the picotee. All the others produced simply yellow flowers. All three tubers were planted in the same pot. I'm assuming the stalk which had the picotee on the flowers was from one tuber and all the others stalks were from the other two.

So my Q: Other than genetics (which is what I'm assuming it most likely is), are there other factors which could have been at play here and -- if yes -- what might those factors have been?

Where did you buy the tubers (mail order or from a store)? Were they bagged or loose? If loose were each tagged? I've been burned several times by buying loose bulbs from a bin with no tags other than the bin itself. Customers often pick up bulbs then decide to put them back but don't know which bin they should go in.

Now for amaryllis I can buy loose bulbs because each bulb is tagged and bound with rubber bands but begonia tubers are another matter.

Also I bought glads in a bag one time that were advertised as having several different colors - 20 corms in all. I ended up with 15 white ones and 5 orange ones - I never bought a mixed bag again.

If you spent a lot of money on your tubers (B&L), then I would take them back to the seller.

It was a package of three I got from Lowes. What really frosts my cookies is that I can't find the packaging from them! I ALWAYS try to keep that kind of stuff just in case the plants don't perform as they should or are the incorrect ones. Grrr. Apparently, the one time I get 'stupid' is the time I needed it.

Well, hopefully you didn't spend a lot on the package.

I bought several of Lowe's woodland plants (trillium, trout lily, etc) and most were either rotted or non-existent by the time I planted them - what a waste of money and time.
