Tillandsia trouble

For two years now IÂve watched my Tillandsias decline suddenly around this time of year. IÂve got a small collection mounted on a piece of driftwood with some sphagnum moss packed around them to anchor and help keep up the humidity around them. They are hung in very bright light in a room with a southern exposure. I mist them frequently, and fertilize occasionally with a foliar spray of a very dilute 20-20-20 forumula starting in late winter. I usually, but not always, use distilled water. In summer, I hang them outdoors under a dogwood tree where they again get very bright morning light and filtered light later in the day. They seem to need next to no maintainence during the summer.

What happens around this time of year though is that the plants start to dry out and turn brown, and soon they more or less disintegrate. This happens despite the fact that I mist them several times a day and also use a humidifier during spells when the atmosphere in my house tends to be drier. WhatÂs going on? IÂve got to admit I donÂt know that much about how to keep Tillandsias healthy, so maybe IÂm making some fundamental mistake in their culture.

Thanks,
