I don't have any here, but my mom has them pop up here or there every year. I like them, I think they're so cheery. Some day I'll get some seeds and grow some myself.

Funny you should bring this Rudbeckia variety up as I was just out admiring how they made it through the hurricane, how I like the form (taller and finer than my goldstrum) and how I want to plant more of it! I'll be saving seeds and WSing it to! This is my first bloom year with it (WSed in 2010) so I don't know if it self seeds or would be a good direct seeder.

Aww. bakemom. You may scatter the seeds anywhere you like. But beware. It self sows prodigiously. Next year you will have seedlings everywhere. Watch for them around this year's mother plants. I do love them, but I have to pull out tons of seedlings every year.

Same with the R. hirta 'Autumn Colors' I WS my first year. They're popping up everywhere but for now I'm just watching to see how far they roam from home. They've self-sowed in beds where I didn't plant them but mostly I find them at the edges of beds where I planted them last year. They're so bright & cheerful, I hesitate to yank the seedlings when I see them. Still, I'm always on guard against anything that turns out to be too much of a good thing.

I ripped all mine out this year because I couldn't keep up with the seedlings and they were crowding things I wanted out. I love the way hey look, but you seriously have to keep on top of them.
