Plant World - Devon? They're great. It seems like someone here may have had a problem getting the seeds through customs a few years back but I haven't encountered that myself....I order from them every year, exceptionally good germination.

I ordered from them and they good. Only the problem- customs now are very strict, they tear up and destroy your seeds in a nanosecond if it is not send with all paperwork. I had it happen to me twice/ both times from England/ and am not taking any chances anymore.
It is not difficult to obtain permit, just time consuming and major PITA when after you send your order via email you have to send snail mail your labels/ permits so they can display it on top of the package.
If it too much problems with ordering overseas Hardyplants
and JL Hudson will have most of those seeds you are looking at plantworld. Both Hardyplants and JL Hudson are of excellent quality germination and seed count.

What seeds are you looking for that you are having trouble finding through other sources? Maybe some of us have them in the seed box or know of other places to get them.

I was looking for heuchera 'blood vein', linaria 'neon lights' lewisia 'bright eyes' or 'sunset doubles' and I liked their Hardy Cottage Smaller mix. I did find some of what I was looking for at hardyplants.com so I may just order from them.

Ah. Yes, if you are looking for particular cultivars it can be tough to find them, especially since seed companies often put restrictions on distribution for some of their newest stuff - selling only to growers for use only as plant plugs or nursery plants.

Hudson Seed Company does have the neon lights linaria you are looking for.

Stokes Seed Company doesn't have the cultivars your are looking for, but sells a nice assortment of linarias and a couple of nice heucheras. They often have good stuff since a lot of their customers are commercial growers. Stokes usually doesn't show up on internet searches because of the way their online catalog is set up.

So yeah, guess I'm no help at all on this for you. :) If you don't get the Hudson and Stokes catalogs, you might want to get them though. They both fill interesting niches. I'm guessing from your taste in plants that you've probably already got well thumbed Thompson and Morgan and Park Seed catalogs on hand.

This was our first year ordering from Hudson, and we were so pleased that they are among our first choice stops for seed.

Not sure if you grow veg, but Kitazawa seed company is also excellent and has a really good catalog that includes all sorts of interesting Asian vegetables that you can't find elsewhere.

Oh dear, there are certainly some cool seeds available from Plant World. Does it say anywhere how many seeds per packet? I don't have the customs permits, though.

The site tells how many seeds you are getting, usually. I think it depends on how rare the item is. You can find the number of seeds on the description page I believe.

Becky, I don't trouble myself with the permits. I usually place an order for 5, maybe as many as 10, types seed knowing there is a chance I could lose them or may have to ask Plant World to reship. So far I've never lost an order to customs, they arrive in a plain brown cardboard envelope that looks like personal mail.

So while I haven't been brave enough to place orders worth $100's without the permit, I haven't applied for it or purchased it for overseas orders (England or New Zealand) with the exception of Garens North - Canada. I do pay for the phytosanitary certificate when ordering from them.

Obtaining permits is not a big problem and does not cost you anything- just bureaucracy papers...
Plantworld website specifically states that they do not carry responsibility for your country import laws.
I rarely can contain myself with 5 seed varieties ;) Morz- you have a lot of will power...
Do you know that if you search google for one word- plantworld seed , it will pop up another seed company? I believe I ordered from them before as well- they appear to be under remodeling now.
As far as Plant World seeds go I believe they used to sell their seeds retail in US under Seeds of Change?- not quite that name but those were packages with beautiful pics like T&M on them distributed by nurseries and some other on line companies sold them as well. Last time I've seen them about 4-5 years ago though...

The ones I am most interested in are the heucheras and I did not see quantities listed. Those seeds are miniscule so they wouldn't even make a bump in the envelope. Anyone order heuchera seeds from them before?

After all the comments I think they are probably a good company to order from but I am just too tight with my money and too scared of not receiving the seeds to take the chance on ordering. I wish everyone else who does order good luck though. =)

I just received email from manager or Plant World that they send fair few amount of seeds but do not count it for every packet.

all i had to do is go to the po and get some kinda paper work that says what's inside was seeds and was worth 0. i don't remember what it was. exactly but a lady from canada told me what to get. she was just the neatest. but that was all. they never tore open my seeds or anything. it didn't cost anything. ~Medo

Ok got my seeds recent order. Customer service is amazing and were with me all the way. Seeds ARE delivered whether you have permit or just order, company stands behind and will resend if any trouble.
They have so much good stuff that I am still salivating. Decided to start most of it right away so all plants accounted for. Good amount of seeds per packet. Extra free packet of seeds included.
Got angelica Corinne Tremaine- their introduction, yellow variegated, got perfumed columbines- supposedly aromatic ones, Dark leaved silene and variegated foxglove. Their primula alpicola is beautiful, I have been lasting after one for long time.

Thanks for the feedback Linda!! I was checking them out last night. I used to grow Angelica Gigas 5 years ago and lost the seeds from my plants when they produced seeds. I also see some which are a must - those Columbines which flower like clematis are divine!!

I just found this company while researching something else. I just went gag-gag making a nice long list of "gotta have its". I'm getting all my paperwork and premits in line to place a fairly good size order and I certainly don't want to have them confiscated in customs. I PITA? Yes,but I want the seeds and I'm not taking any chances.

Does the company tell you ahead of time what specific paperwork you need and how to get that paperwork (and then get that paperwork to them) so you can get your seeds? Is there a cost to getting the paperwork? I found NOTHING on the webpage for plantworldseeds.com that would tell me anything about this process. How is someone totally unfamiliar with required paperwork supposed to know about this? I really want to order some seeds!
