Cut away the dried parts of the old plant and repot it pup and all. The pup can be removed when its 50% the size of mom. The mom should produce some more pups depending on which bromeliad it is.

I had already cut away the dead leaves. As for repotting, to my understanding, these do not really go in dirt, is that right? I thought I read that you attach it to a piece of bark or something and wrap it with moss?

I wouldn't if its a Guzmania. Do you have a photo?

That's a form of Aechmea fasciata. A picture of it appears on the from page of this forum top right. It will grow on wood or in a nice wire basket filled sphagnum. Good morning sun and should fill up the basket in a couple years. Wood is hard to grow larger plants on as they dry out faster in hot climates.

When watering, I have always just put it in the "cup" of the plant. Is this the proper way to water a bromiliad? Also, how long before my new pup blooms?
