Garden Visits

Hi everyone,

During the week the members of our little Bromeliad Society went for a garden visit to gardens belonging to three of our society members.

We had a great day which started at 10.00am at garden No.1 after which we went to a local bushland reserve for a picnic lunch among the trees and birds.

After lunch we visited gardens 2 and 3 and finally at 3.00pm on the way home we purchased some plants from the collection of a member who sadly has gone into a nursing home due to ill health and has to sell her collection.

A great day was had by all who attended and I would like to share with you, a few pic's I took of each garden.

All the best, Nev.

    Hi Nev,

Thanks for the pics - it's always good to see other gardens. I wouldn't mind visiting the garden in those last few shots - looks like lots of interesting stuff.

    Cheers, Paul

Thanks for sharing Nev, and its amazing that even though the gardens were filled with a majority of the same plant type, they were all quite different! I would love a closer look in some of those gardens! Maybe If I ever get to your area you can take me on a tour! he he

    Hi everyone

Brom_adorer, you're always welcome to visit my garden if you're ever in our area.

This invitation goes for anyone else as well. I'm always glad to see other growers and talk brom's.

Please phone first on (02) 4296 2713 so a suitable time can be arranged and if time allows I may also be able to arrange a garden visit to some other growers as well.

    All the best, Nev.

Hey Nev - a belated vote of appreciation from me too for your Illawarra brom tour. Good to have a perv in others' backyards. I love that tree in Garden #3. Is it a Peppercorn?

Thanks for the open invitation too - very nice of you.

Ummm....it probably isn't a good idea to publish home phone numbers online, and definitely not home addresses. You might receive crank bromaniacal calls, unwanted junk mail, or worse, uninvited suspect visitors.
As have some others, I choose to show my email addy on My Page of GW, and folk have contacted me that way - but it's not so public as in commonly read GW posts.

    Hi Kerry,

Re. your first question: It was a peppercorn but it got some sort of grub in it and the top half had to be removed, but it's not improving as the grubs seem to be right through it and I don't like using poisons around the place. At this stage it looks like it will just have to end up being a dead tree for brom's to grow on.

As for your advice about the phone number, well I guess it's too late now and something that just didn't occur to me. I guess I'm still living in the good old days and still trust everyone.

Unwanted visitors would have to get past the watch dog as well as the neighbors' watch dogs who all bark in unison and loud enough to 'wake the dead' as soon anyone they don't know enters either of the yards.

    All the best, Nev.

    Eden of bromeliads!

Thanks nev, I will put your number in my little black bromeliad book for future reference. If your ever up my way, you can visit here too. My email is on my page, so best to contact me that way eh?
I would appreciate it if anyone from Brisbane to sydney could post details of any bromeliad events in their area. Myself and some others do regular road trips when time and money allows. the last was to John Catlans open day. That was a good day, with lots to see and hear, and morning tea was delicious! I bought home a box of seedlings, mostly vrieseas and Alcants, but I digress.
