My experience is space them out. The same with Lady's Mantle. Few seeds per container.

I just responded to your post on the Perennials forum, before I had seen this thread! Yes I've had some luck winter-sowing Heuchera (see other post). The seeds are tiny so I just press them into the surface and water gently.

Never sowed Knifofia, but tried Hellebores once with no luck. Hellebores supposedly require 2 years to germinate??

I've had good germination of heuchera, but didn't get any to keep growing once planted out. Be careful to space them to avoid overcrowding.

I got two red hot poker seedlings from 9 seeds last year. Put them in individual pots but never transplanted. They took a long time to even put out a second spike (leaf?). I'm hoping they make it through the winter and come back big enough to go in the garden.

Ok I will do my best to sow just a few heuchera seeds in the container. I made the mistake of sowing too thickly in several jugs last year, especially the foxgloves. Probably had more foxgloves than any other seedlings. My local nursery had an end of season sale on halloween where I purchased a red hot poker plant for only $1 so I wont be sowing any of them.

Hellebore for sure, even if they take their time, the jug can just chill somewhere under a tree with the top open all year if it needs to. Those plants are so expensive and I acquired the seeds for free, I will have to try them.

Does anyone need any more seeds for winter sowing? I have many different ones and can't use them all.

I would love some seeds! We're rehabbing a 1/4 acre garden that was abandoned for 20 years. We've got most of the weeds out and we've rescued the remaining plants, but we have a lot of space to fill!

Hellebore seeds want a warm and moist period first, followed by cold moist. Sow the seeds and let them hang out on a sunny windowsill for 6 weeks (start now), than put them out in the cold. They'll (hopefully) start to sprout about 9 weeks after you move them to cold.
