Winter Sowing!

Yeiks, I don't even have all my clay pots put away and they are calling for snow the next 2 days.

Some parts of PA are going to get over a foot of the white stuff.

Better start saving my milk jugs!

We had hail today, yuck. I grabbed some coleous starts and figure the rest is over. Does anyone know when I should shear back the peony and snowball bush? Such crazy weather, the tiny campanula sprouts seem healthy though. I put most things in the garage but the dahlia just had a few blooms to go. Am I risking killing it by waiting to see them flower?
At least there was some rain, but I don't like all this cold. On the plus side my toddler got to have hot cocoa for the first time today. :)

And I thought I lived in the far north... LOL!! Went for a walk with the dogs last night in 18C weather - that's around 70F for you southern folks. :O) Got to love that Gulf Stream!!

    Floodthelast,

If you are talking about herbaceous Peonies, just clean up the foliage after it has all died down which it will do. Tree peonies - don't touch. Just let them grow as is.

For the Snowball Bush, trim it only right after flowering since it sets it's blooming buds this year for next year. If you trim now you may get no or very little flowering in 2009.

Your Dahlias should be removed when the frost makes the foliage turn black. If you can get a few more blooms out of them go ahead, but with hail in your neck of the woods they won't be blooming for long anyway.

    Yum. Hot cocoa! Delish!

Yikes! We woke up to snow this morning, but we didn't get anywhere near the snow predicted last night or today. Fortunately even the small amount that stuck should be gone by the weekend.

No snow last night, only WIND and lots of that.

Today we had snow showers all day, have to check the lettuce and probably pick all.

I don't have to worry about digging out dahlias, an elderly woman had to get rid if hers, I came home with an entire trunk load of tubers! There has to be about 100 lbs of them.

I have to make room in the cellar, I don't think they will survive in a insulated cooler in an unheated basement will they?

We got 6 inches so far (mixed sleet/hail/grapple/snow)and it's still coming down and blowing around! I figure we're lucky - farther north got over a foot.
    :(
My BIL and SIL just left - they came to pick up a couple kerosene heaters, instant coffee and jugs of water because they're out of power and have been told they may be out for quite a long time.
Lots of schools in the area were closed. I can't ever remember a school taking a snow day in October...and I'm old! lol.

Yup, there's white crap stuff on the ground - I sooo want to start some jugs, but I know better with the stupid weather we get here.

Tiffy, I am so jealous! Actually, I'm glad for you.
    :)
    Enjoy it while it lasts!
