Mail Order Catalogues

Hi Everyone...Put my mask on so I don't catch this "bug" or whatever everyone is getting! Got a quick question..I'm sure by now some of you are getting the Spring mail order plant/seed books.

In one book I saw an angel trumpet with pink, yellow and white flowers all on one plant. Is this possible?? I am SOO leary about ordering from these books as everything that I order either is not available (I just get the book and it isn't available???) or it looks like it has been dead for two weeks.

I don't know why I'm even looking as I'm sure Mother Nature is not bringing Spring or Summer this year. Just had a terrible ice storm just prior to having over a foot of snow and now another two more feet is expected early next week. We literally have no more room to pile up snow! Looks like I'll be here in the forum year around this year.

I've seen them advertised in the Michigan Bulb catalog, and have seen them mentioned on another brug forum website. From what I've seen, it is possible to graft brugs, but I'm not sure you're really going to get the greatest plants unless they're from a very reputable brug dealer/grower.

I remember reading about those. They're not even grafted, the people who bought them said its 3 brugs stuck in the same pot. I agree with Kylie....RUN!!! LOL.

I ordered my Inca Sun from Select Seeds catalog and I was pleased with it, it even had a bud when I got it.
I ordered a Miner's Claim from Territorial Seed co...NOT pleased with it. I was just a little seedling sized thing...its dead now.

IMO the best place to get brugs is online, like Country Gardens, or a good ebay seller like EddieDewayne, impower56, Bernier6, Pphil, SeedSprout. Or through a trade right here on GW.

Wherever you decide to order from, as far as from a catalog, I'd check with the garden watchdog first and check their seller rating.

You don't want to get burned.

My neighbor ordered one of the butterfly bushes that had 3 different colors on them and was VERY disappointed...Besides it took 3 years to even bloom...I'd be leary.

Just my two cents worth...There are LOTS of honest reputable companies out there you can purchase from...Here's who I've ordered from:

    Garden Crossings
    Annies Annuals
    Bluestone Perennials
    High Country Gardens

Just to name a few...This doesn't include buying plants/seeds off ebay.

I look at the catalogs, get ideas, then throw them away...Some I don't even look at, just cuz...lol

WOW!! I see great minds think alike! I wouldn't touch a multicolored brug from this mail order with a ten foot pole!

Mike....I ordered Miner's Claim from a VERY reputable place...had it for about one week and it died also! I must not have had the "Midas touch"! As a side note...how interested are you in hoyas??

I just couldn't imagine getting all three colors on one plant...but then again, stranger things have happened!

    Gettin my runnin shoes on!

Joyce, I just got my first hoya about a week ago so I don't really think I'm addicted yet, I'll have to wait until I see the blooms. I don't know how hard they are to grow and get to bloom? Are they fragrant? And also, do cuttings easily root?

I think the three colors are like they said. Three cuttings stuck into the same pot. Its not a single tree like they make it sound in the catalogue. Shawn I rooted a couple pieces in water and it took a long time but they did it.
