i have never had faith in any spike product in any application ... as far as i am concerned.. its all marketing hype ....

i simply use about a quarter teaspoon of water sol fert per gallon ..... in my watering can ...

and i use a bleached out one gal milk container... as a holding tank.. until its gone ...

such a small amount.. barely turns the water blue ...

in having the some gal sitting around.. i never forget ... and i only have to make it.. every gallon or so ....

i dont know what you mean by babies.. but be very careful about fert with tiny plants ... its easier to burn them ...

Or you could mix some time-release granular fertizer into the soil. I use water soluable (MiracleGro) during late winter/early spring. In the summer I use a time release that is part of a granular systemic insecticide/fungicide product. If you do nothing else, some weak MiracleGro during the growing season will help. I think the little plant food spikes, while they seem handy, rely on the soil bring consistently moist. The MiracleGro regimen is pretty easy to follow once you get into the habit.
