You have so many pretty ones...what are some of your sources..if you don't mind me asking?I might be able to squeak in another...if not, I still enjoy window shopping. LOL

I bought this from Michael's Bromeliads in Venice. Its the first time I have ever ordered from them. I have bought a few plants from them on eBay auctions that have been very nice. I have also bought plants from Tropiflora, and I have a friend who grows many bromeliads near me in Newberry FL who has traded me a lot for stuff I have she wanted. Then I have gotten several extremely beautiful, healthy plants from a lady named PEGGY alias PLLOVE!!

Hi Bihai,nice plant! I recently bought some plants from Michael's too,mostly Dyckias,and all were excellent. I just ordered a carcharadon 'Tiger' from Jim Irvin,who sent me a pic of the mother plant with two large offsets,really nice. Still one offset left if you're interested.Looks very similar to your new 'Blushing Tiger',perhaps not as 'rosy'.There is a very nice article in the Jan/Feb'06 BSI Journal,with some great color pics,of Michaels Bromeliads.Check out that variegated 'Hannibal Lector'on pg.18. Wow ! I would love to work there,but they probably would'nt want an employee that stands around gauking and drooling . Oh,well. Bob

I have been trying to recruit help and had no luck,so far.

Yup, Bihai, 'Blushing Tiger' is one of my hybrids! Sharon Petersen did a similar one called 'Screaming Tiger'. Both turn red in the center when they bloom, which is unusual for the dark-banded varieties.

I've been working with Neo. carcharodon 'Tiger' (a much bigger, spinier plant, and one I absolutely LOVE) to try to get a bigger, bolder banded plant, but with a more open form and blushing cup. Will have to wait and see what comes out!

I love banding, both the dark ampullacea/zonata etc. type, and banded marmoration like you find in 'Lambert's Pride', 'Break of Day' and others. I'm always trying to accentuate those traits, and have them hold up in the warm weather here.

The markings are clearer when it's not blooming, and I've done some further crossing with it to try and intensify the dark bands.

Here's one of my favorite offspring, which I crossed with another of my hybrids (Blueberry Muffin). I call it Blueberry Tiger. Unfortunately it doesn't blush when it blooms, and the form isn't great, but the markings came out really nice. I haven't released this one yet, so don't ask!

Yowzers! Excellent plant Bihai, and thanks to Lisa for creating it. Don't ask??...about Blueberry Muffin?? How about beg?? Does it have ampullacea in it? Bob, that varigated Hannibal Lector has kept me up nights waiting to see how many will be available after the WC. What a showpiece.

I didn't realize Michael had a picture of Blushing Tiger on his site. His looks better than mine! Yeah, there's some ampullacea in there, along with a few other things.

He should have Blueberry Muffin on his price list too (I tried to check but can't seem to download the list right now). Blueberry Tiger-- the cross between the two-- is still unavailable though. Sorry, gonzer. You can beg but it won't do you any good until I propagate it some more, and there are people ahead of you in line. In the meantime, I suggest you get both the parents and make your own cross. Hey, it's easy! ;-)

Now if you were to show up in Hawaii with a variegated Hannibal Lecter in your hand I might find that fairly persuasive....... anybody got a picture of that one?

Kim, I don't know who besides Michael's has Blushing Tiger. He and David Shiigi are the only people I sold to (outside of regular local retail sales), but it's pretty prolific so I'm sure it'll get spread around. I first released that for auction at the World Conference a few years back, which is kind of what I had in mind for Blueberry Tiger.

Bihai, of that list N. angustifolia x pauciflora and Painted Delight x Painted Lady are NOT mine. He has some other things of mine which may not be attributed too. If I had the list I could tell you which ones, but there's some bigenerics, Billbergias, maybe some more Neos, I can't remember now.

The only one of those I have a DP of is Ring of Fire. It's a big plant, between 18" and 2 ft. across, maybe even bigger, depending on how you grow it. This would be very good for landscaping:

Some of the other ones I have prints of and I could try scanning them, but a lot of my plants look like hell right now (long story), so I don't want to take pics until I get them back into shape. I'm working on it!

Briefly, Blueberry Muffin is a small (@6" across), rounded, open, glossy plant loosely covered with purple spots. There are 2 clones of it, I forget which one he got. They're both pretty cool, but you have to grow them kind of hard to get the good form. If it's stretched out it won't look nearly as good.

Caviar and Java Plum are siblings; smaller (4"), kind of tubular, and even more covered with purple spots. Java Plum is the darker, blotchier of the two, more purple than green. I kind of like Caviar better, the spots are more distinct. They're smithii x Cheers, so that gives you an idea of the size.

Hokule'a is like a small (8-10") red star, a bit reminiscent of Grace Goode's One and Only, but more pointed and somewhat recurved. Nice clean rosette, very flat and open.

Popoki was the best selection from the punctatissima rubra x tigrina grex, although Michael wanted the others too. They're all little stoloniferous highly banded plants, some more brownish, others more greenish. I'd stick with Popoki, it's got the best markings.
