I grow mine in a soil less mix but if your plant is doing well like it is. Don't change it. Its humid here so misting isnt needed very often.

Hi. Just joined because I wanted to offer some advice regarding T. Cyanea. The one that I have is blooming nicely. I have it in a pot in peat moss & orchid bark (2:1 mix). Before I potted it, I submerged most of it in water (not the base which was covered in a plastic bag) for a few hours since it was received by mail. Since potting it, I've been misting it at least twice a day, alternating with a weak mix of diluted hydrogen peroxide, making sure the leaves are wet. The most important things are air flow and light. It's in my workplace where it doesn't get any sunlight, just office lights, but it's doing very well. All my air plants are thriving despite the lack of sunlight. Another thing that I've done is misting them with air plant food diluted in water at least once a month. It seems to help especially when they are flowering. So if you mist, just make sure the leaves are wet and try to avoid the bloom (it will wilt when water hits it).

I don't like the air plant food as it leaves unsightly residues on the leaves and flowers and for some fuzzy leafed tillandsias, this mist-feeding can destroy its beautiful feathery foliages.
I would recommend using a nylon stocking bag with a timed release fertilizer in it and tied placed near the root zone. When your plant is splashed with water, it gets fed. No scattering of the pellet balls all over the place and no uncertainty if they are still potent or not.
Tillandsia cyanea likes bright indirect sunlight/light source for best coloration. The loss of inflorescence coloration is a sign of poor lighting.
Best grown in a soil-less media with good drainage.
keep pot bound for best growth and proportioned plants. Makes lots of pups during and after flowering.
