The second scape on my Apple Blossom is finally opening. I know that everyone and their dog has an Apple Blossom but it is my personal favorite. Pink and white and lovely.

One of my Van Engelen "unmarked" bulbs is opening! This by my guess is Miracle. I was thinking Candy Floss when it first began peeking but the color is much too deep for that now. We'll see. It could turn out to be the Basuto. Darn those variety bags. They give you a list of what's in the bag but not individual labels. How maddening.

Last but never least we have the "alien baby." She is really opening:-) Her petals are developing a nice light orange tint. I can't wait to see her at full glory! Aren't you excited for yours, Frank!?!

Gawjess! Regardless of common or not, I love the Apple Blossom! Oh the suspence of an unknown bloom...fun fun! That little guy is just taking his sweet little alien time isn't he? Hopefully, the bloom will last longer this way, right? Mine is still just a growin'!

I think Apple blossom should sue Walmart and Home Depot for making her public desensitized to her-- because apple blossom-- especially if grown out really well, will give you fantastic results. I personally love it. Here is mine-- she performed admirably, though she's quite small now because the move was not good to her.

Six blooms, the size of small dinner plates

Besides being beautiful, Appleblossom is one of the hardier large flowering hybrids. I put 3 Appleblossoms to test just recently. They are established and potted ones. I left them outside beside the garage door under the eaves (frost free). Temps have been going down to the "teens" and they were not even bothered by it. The bulbs were still nice and firm. They potting soil was very dry before I did this. Spring will give me results of the test's effect on the flowers if there are any.

This is one of the Appleblossoms that I put to test. This is how it looks like blooming in it's own time in May (60-70s) in my garden.

I do love Apple Blossom, but seem to have gotten the only two bulbs that don't want to grow well... both seem very sensitive to rot, and neither bulb has fattened up. They have, in fact, shrunk a bit. Both are from Walmart.

Where I got them shouldn't make a difference, however... my extremely large and vigorous Minerva was from Walmart. I suppose it's a good excuse to buy one more Apple Blossom.

    Everyone's photos are lovely!

I don't think all Apple Blossoms are created equal. I've had a few for several years that never do much, except make more bulbs. Then I got a couple last year that made very large bulbs. Will be interesting to see which does what this spring. I agree that it is one of the most beautiful of all hippis.
