Butterfly Garden

Another Newbie Question

I saw my first Monarch today! DH says that he saw 2 of them. Happy Happy Dance here. My question is: Do Monarchs get nectar from any other plant besides milkweed? My milkweed is only about 8 inches high and of course has no blooms yet. I'm so excited but I'm afraid they won't hang around if the milkweed isn't blooming.

My butterfly garden is new. Last year, I did have a few BST and this year I added the milkweed to attract monarchs. I have a lot of other nectar plants that do have blooms. Will they hang around?

Monarchs nectar off of lots of different flowers. I can't imagine why they wouldn't hang around. They need the host plant in your yard.

Oh Nancy - you have made my day with that info. Now I can start looking for eggs on the milkweed.
