I always cut the toe out of white tube socks and slide my hand in from the toe end and the ribs on the socks hold them on my arms. Hubby always has a worn pair available this LOL

Yes I started out wearing my old thick work socks for protection as well, but then I found these gloves at Bunnings (probably the same things you are talking about "graggie"). They are quite thin so you still have good dexterity with your fingers and the top part is a light weight thin green canvas type material which comes right up to the arm pits. Prickles can't penetrate them and they're fantastic value at $5 a pair.

The only trouble is, I don't remember to put them on until there is blood running down both arms, doh!

I do get irritation from the thorns but it isn't serious and never persists overnight.

So I would suppose that more severe reactions are allergic in nature and should be treated like allergies. Good luck.

Kebbiee1 - Prevention is better than treatment, however here in Australia I just rub a bit of Ti-Tree oil on any itching or stinging irritations and it stops them in their track, but I don't know if it's available where you live. There are also various antiseptic creams now available containing Ti Tree oil as the active ingredient which work just as well.

A pair of men's old work socks with the toe cut out and pulled over the arm will give good protection as will long armed gloves made for the purpose.

Although they look cumbersome, they aren't, as they are made out of a type of light weight canvas. Last time I bought them they were $5.95 AU.
