    token,

how much coffee have you had today?

Token, is that the first day of Spring next year? That means we have only 89 days to Winter Sow?

elee, I've only had two cups. I've been working on the kitchen since 8am. I'm about to have lunch and switch gears to the swap. I can only scrape paint and sand drywall for so long.

Yep. First day of spring is March 20, 2010. Three months, 10 days. So yes, we only wintersow for 89 days this year. Ya'll best get cracking. LOL!

More deadlines, More stress, Don't know which way to turn next. Can't do anything till I get those seeds back in the mail. hahaha
    Just teasing.
But I think I have a problem. Have you ever felt like you just want to skip all of this holiday hoohaa and go straight to the ws. Suppose that means I am addicted?

89 days! I love the way that makes winter sound almost over Token! First we couldn't wait for 12/21 and now it's just 11 days away. Can someone tell me who fires the starting gun? Who says, "Ready! Set! GO!!!"? My soil is blended and waiting in a bucket, labels are lined up like a picket fence across the kitchen table & aluminum trays of WS containers await on the tailgate of my truck inside the garage. I started a WS diary to record what seeds I sowed, how long to germination & first set of true leaves, etc. Brought home some copy paper boxes from the office to set my containers in so they don't get blown hither and yon by the winter winds. Enablers are everywhere, even in places you'd least expect, like the office cafeteria. (;-p)

Gardenweed..you're not going to show us your WS diary. Is it on computer? Come on' share a pic of it, please, pretty please!

Pippi - It's only a Word document (so far) but it did occur to me while I was typing it that I'm probably going to need to take pictures of everything over the course of the WS experience: containers prepped, containers filled, containers with labels, containers duct taped closed, containers set down by the cellar door where they hopefully won't get blown into the neighbor's yard. And all that's just on Day #1! I'm guessing the diary isn't going to be very interesting until after March 20, 2010...but thanks for asking!

Eh, thats just the 100th day of winter here, talk to me middle of May, K?

Oh come on Doris. March 20, 2009, it was sunny and 62 degrees by late afternoon. It dropped to 35 that night. We had two more nights in the low 30s after that and no more frost until October 19. We had no frost in November. Since December 1, we've had frost almost every morning that it wasn't raining.

    99 days.

96 days. Cold, wet, and raining today. I could sure use some sunshine.

    Hi all
Here is a little poem I wrote for a swap that I did. Thought that it might make you all smile!!

    Winter Soltice

Twas the night before Winter solstice and all through the garden
The air was quite cold, the ground starting to harden
I had just sat down to a nice cup of tea
To look through the seeds I had gotten for free
When out on the lawn, there arouse such a clatter
I jumped from my chair to see what was the matter
The snowflakes were fallin' the wind was a blowin'
"My winter sowing containers!!" down the street they were goin
I threw on my boots, took off at a run
I could already see this was not gonna be fun
I collected the containers and tied them up tight
So much for seed sorting on this crazy night
I put on my PJ's and snuggled to bed
While visions of winter sown flowers danced in my head
I swear I heard my husband snore as I drifted off to sleep
"Happy Winter solstice to all, and don't plant your seeds too deep"

    Have a great week!!

    cAROL

Thanks cAROL! I did write a lot when I was younger. I can usually come up with something witty if I have time to think about it :o) I got more containers cut today!! I am dreading putting dirt in them. It's going to be messy. Oh well necessary evil!!

    86 days.

I like the solstice poem and the count down to Spring! How nice that there are 14 fewer days until Spring already. It can't get here fast enough for me!

I also like your poem, Heidi. Would you mind if I sent it to my sister? I will give you credit and if you send your name I can include your full name. Thanks.

According to Weatherunderground, we gained 1 second today. Tomorrow will be 9 seconds longer.

    December 23, 2009:
    Length of day: 9h 34m
Length Of Visible Light: 10h 32m

This is based on my latitude and will be different for people in other areas. Here, the sun is setting later, but it is also rising later. The actual amount of daylight won't doesn't change much until January.

Token or anyone? Is there an official count started yet? Or have we grown beyond that?

OK, all - NM on that last post. Sorry. I need to sleep.

    85 days

2 1/2 months sounds better though

February is 3 days shorter than January

    Leap year. *sigh*

I was just looking at old posts from March and my zone had sprouts then. I haven't sow anything yet myself, BAD weather. Icey rain... Tomorrow should be above freezing, so I hope to get started. Less than 100 days til sprouts... I think I'm going to make it through the winter!
    :)Laura

I was wrong. 2010 is not a leap year. WOOHOO!

Math has never been my strong suit but with leap year out of the equation, that leaves us at 82 days, right?
