Some Cryptanthus make this stem after they bloom and then at the tip of the stem there will be a lot of new baby plants that can be taken off and potted up. It will look like a cluster of little stars.

Bihai, it had one baby about a year ago, but it did not make it. The original plant looks healthy, but I am afraid the stem will snap off. (This happened with an African Violet that had a long neck.)
So can I repot it with some extra potting medium to support the plant or should I just put in something to prop it up?

It there are small plants on the end of the stem, you SHOULD snap it off, press those plants into some soil or moss, and let them root. Those are your new generation

There are no plants other than the original one, no flowers either. The stem gradually got longer as the lower leaves died off. So the leaves at the top make it top-heavy and it wants to flop over.
