Fertilizing new Amaryllis

Today I purchased two Amaryllis that had been left over from last year at the local nursery, they had been grown with the annual flowers,and are enormous size bulbs,one

with offshoots.

The only problem is they have lost the names,so when they bloom it will be a surprize.

They are growing leaves about5 inches tall and flower buds

about three inches high..

I could find no fertilizer in the nursery that didnt have a

high middle number,will try another place tomorrow,

When do I start to fertilize these plants, and how often I could use rose fertilizer I think its 28 16 14 or somewhat close to that number. Thanks...Merry Christmas....Jack

Hi Jack,
What a wonderful find!
Unless you have a light set up,I would wait till the end of Feburary for the fertilizer.Once the days are longer the plants have enough sun to use what you give them. And,there will be more fertilizer choices.
Is the fertilizer you have a liquid or a granule or time release? ..Lora

Use Miracle grow or a 10-10-10 or 20-20-20. When you see leaves start feeding it. READ THE fertilzer LABLE for rates and feeding directions first! I feed mine 1/4 - 1/2 strength miracle grow every other watering.
