I would suggest you do a quick google to verify the id of your cactus.

My guess would be Ferocactus emoryi.

Thank you! I did google to find images and information on theses plants, but I'm not sure I'm getting the nuances. Could someone please help me with the differenced between Echinocactus and Ferocactus? Espcially when it comes to very young plants; I found the attached images, and I'm not sure what to look for to compare it to mine. Thanks again, and in advance.

It can be nearly impossible to give a 100% certain name to a baby Echinocactus or Ferocactus, they don't develop mature spination and rib structures for several years. The reason I say E. platyacanthus is that the purple striping is very distinctive and common on this species but not common on other species.

I agree with shrubs n bulbs- this is definitely an Echinocactus platyacanthus.
