To me it looks like Braz-el or a hybrid from it. I know some seed from braz-el was brought into australia years ago i think by olive. It is a possibility 6th america refers to a plant from that seed batch. Where did you get it from?

Braz-el is just another name for N. correia-araujoi, which IMHO didn't need a registered name. The source of the name is a photo in Zaghini's book taken in Hatsumi Maertz's backyard in Pearl City. He has it labeled "Brazel species", probably because everybody in Hawaii refers to the plant informally as "Brazil". Of course, Shane misspelled it (as he is wont to do).

Betty Ho, the person who collected it in Rio de Janeiro state and introduced it to Hawaii, didn't know the species, so she just put that nickname on it and we all used it until I finally sent a specimen of that same plant off to Harry Luther, who IDed it as N. xcorreia-araujoi. It was then thought to be a natural hybrid of johannis and marmorata, but he has since declared that it is just another form of N. johannis.

I still think it's a natural hybrid, but whether it is or isn't, it doesn't self-pollinate, which means the only way anyone could have brought in seeds of it is if they had got them from someone who had two clones of it and crossed them-- or perhaps someone who had crossed johannis with marmorata? The jury's still out on this one. I am currently experimenting with it, so I'll let you know when my seedlings mature.

At any rate, I agree that your plant does look very much like N. correia-araujoi, Marleneann.

No, that part is a mystery to me, Dooley. There is a grex named Neo. America, but they are concentrica hybrids (Elmore). I haven't seen all the cvs, but I'd be very surprised if any of them looked like that. My guess is it's just somebody's shorthand or code.

Some questions for you...
1. How big (diameter) is it ?
2. What is its largest leaf width ?
3. How old is it and where is it growing ?
4. Is there any faint striation (thin red stripes) anywhere on the leaves - including underside ?

I agree with Lisa, it certainly looks a lot like c-a, just not sure if you can go ahead and label it as that though ? It has a c-a 'Hybrid' look to me at first glance, not the true species, even though I know there are several different looking clones of c-a around. If you can answer these questions it may give a another clue ?

I will contact the seller and see if I can find out more about the plant.
I think it was in the species section but not a 100% suer if that is correct.

Here is a photo of my Neo correia-araujoi ( I think it is )
It hasn't received as much light as it should so it's a bit green. Anyone think it is not a correia-araujoi.
