Oh so unfair Stephania, they are both gorgeous!
I did a search for these 2 and found nothing.
Where did they come from and who are mom and pop? Maybe a little beateae or morning star visited?
And where do I get them?

Guess I would have to go with California those spines really pop against that rich red color, but you know me I would not turn either of them down.
Thanks for the quiz!!

Pat if your really really, really nice to me I will tell you where (hehe)

I can be nice! LOL

Very nice Stephania, I like the Arizona best. And the more I see of your spinies, the more I like them!! Japie

They're both beautiful, but apart from the redder color of CA, I can't see much difference. Often my Dyckias will turn that color when they get too dry, so I've developed a preference for the darker brown tone. Are they the same cross?

If we were talking about states, I'd have to say Arizona, but as far as these plants go California.

Lisa you got it !
Actually, my point for this topic is to show the effect of light and heat
which could make illusion or mistake. The above pic of my Dyck 'California'
was taken in the evening after a whole day of sunbath !

This is the same clump of that Dyckia 'California' which taken this morning
after receiving a night rain, they coloured up to be as dark as
its brother Dyckia 'Arizona'

As Lisa mentioned, they look alike, but at least 'Arizona' seems to be quite stable in color.
Up to date, the same clump of my Dyckia 'Arizona' this morning.

I got 'Arizona' from Tropiflora, while 'California' from Bill Baker.
Though it hard to distinguish them apart, I found there are some differences
in colouration, texture and spine.

This is 'California'

Both 'States' are very nice Stephania. Excellent photos.
Maybe you can cross them both ways one day soon, and name them,........
'Arifornia' & 'Calizona'
