Normally, we test the soil to see what the ph of the soil is- either alkaline or acidic, to determine if it needs liming. Liming is used when the soil ph is too acidic, or low, on the ph scale. You want your soil to be around 7 on the ph scale, that is the best ph for nutrient intake for most plants. If the soil is too alkaline, (high) or too acidic (low), that ph reading can inhibit the uptake of vital substances that plants need. (Macro and micro nutirents, too)
You didn't say if you have your angel in a pot or in ground. If you used a pot with potting soil or soiless mixture, you shouldn't need lime. Lime is slow acting, and doesn't affect the ph of the soil right away, and is usually applied the season before gardening. But Angels love fertilizer! I dilute my Expert Gardener all purpose water soluble granular plant food for every watering and they are growing like gangbusters! Expert Gardener plant food is found in Walmart. (The middle number. which represents Phosphate, is higher than the other 2 in the ratio ie- 15.30.15) Compost is another great thing you can top your soil off with, it slowly releases nutrients to your plants. Thank You. I have also since read that Lime should not be used with fertilizer. Apparently creates an unwanted reaction in the soil that can/will damage roots. My brug's are beginning to grow like Gangbusters as well. I will continue to fertilize, although I use MiracleGrow

I think any fertilizer is fine, I just like the bloom booster kind! Good to have you here on garden web, by the way!
