I hope you won't mind the voice of experience, but around age 13 that species sometimes develops nasty spines.

Enjoy them while they are cuddly and friendly. Their growth habits are highly variable, and you can only control environmental conditions to a limited degree. Benign neglect is definitely Not the right cultural practice. And remember to provide water more frequently than you might other succulents. Fertilization, however, is not recommended until they have matured, flowered, and developed a strong root system. Give 'em lots of love and they will thrive!
