Dealing with Aechmea distichantha

I have a large potted specimen Aechmea distichantha. Which is outgrowing the 200mm clay pot it was purchased in and needs potting on. It is such a vicious plant that when ginally bought it I found it easier to put the pot in a milk crate and strap it to the roof rack of the car for the 30 minute trip home than try to coax it into the back. it came through completely unscathed with inflorescences intact.

I am curious to know how other growers grow or display this plant. i do not wnat to put it in the ground as i would be seriously afraid of my nephew coming face to face with it, let alone the prospect of weeding around it. I am thinking of potting it in a larger pot then placing it somewhere out of harms way, but where i can still enjoy theblooms when they come. I will probably even split it too.

What do other people do with them?
