I don't think its M. hahniana. How big is it?

I don't think this is a M. Hahniana.

Dawn

Nine foot three?!? Nine inches?

Its not a hahniana and it soesnt look etiloated, just a mamm with a columnar habit(I believe hahniana is a clumper instead)

Nine inches, i can keep it in my apartment

Mamm's don't get that tall, none that I have heard of. Could this be a M. Scrippsiana or M. Albata? If you could get a closer shot of the plant that would make IDing easier. Nice looking plant though.

Dawn

It might be a Mammillaria polythele, possibly even one of the near-spiness forms. Would need to see a closeup of the areoles for a better ID.

Hi hopiko, try Mamm chionocephala, It looks similar to one of mine. It is usually solitary and can normall reach a height of around 8 inches... so another inch or so is not outside the realm of possibility.

Dawn, I once had a solitary Mamm that reached 18 inches tall. I'll post a pic for you when I get time.

CHeers for now, CP

Here's one at 18" tall :)

CP, I'll be waiting, thanks

I agree, it looks like M. chionocephala, which does develop this type of banded wool when it gets big, and it does get big.

Interesting that it looks so different from a recent M. chionocephala post, which had much darker central spines, almost black. I think the pale ones with dark tips are more normal.

thanks shrubs n bulbs, cactuspolecat and all the cactus passionates of this site

Hopiko and I posted at the same time. My post sounds like I am saying that a 9" mamm is too big. I know that mamms can get too about a foot and a half. Sorry for any confusion.
