It sure does! Neat-O Al! Which one is it? A type of H. emelyae?

~Rosemarie

Dear Al,

That's a delightful one. I've seen it out here, compliments of Cactus MCFryer, as H. emelyae v. 'White Boy'.

Right on, Rosemarie. The name was suggested by Bruce Bayer when he visited my, formerly much larger, Haworthia collection.

Thank you, Jeffrey. I think I will add that to the 'tag'. This has always been a favorite, so when I downsized. this was one of the survivors.

Al

That is awesome...of course

What type soil is "normal" for Haworthias? I have a similar one, but not that color..
Bill in SC

Dear Bill,

I use 50% my mix and 50% coir.

There are several recognized varieties of H. emelyae, but the White Boy that I have (and is from McFryer) is a selection made from several hundred H. emelyae v. emelyae plants that he had - I think he chose 10-15 out of them to represent the ones that had the whitest 'flocking'.

Al, that is a beautiful clone!!

I didn't originate the "whiteboy" name, FWIW- and for that matter neither did Steve Hammer, Bob Kent, or a number of other Haworthia enthusiasts I've known who seem to get that horribly racist sounding moniker stuck to their white H. emelyae's. Although Steve did give me one he called 'whitegirl' for my birthday last year :) If I propagate it I'm going to call it "Alpine Hornetta".. it would be interesting to find out who started using that name someday..

Mark

Never fear, McF, I'll now not attach the name of your clone to this'un. Too many plants with too many careless attachments of names are now in circulation. :-((

Probably because I'm stingy with the water can, I'm not deluged with offsets. (This is an offset.) Larger clumps look nice too.
